Stuart’s Vancouver Edit
10 August days in British Columbia
Not only is Vancouver an incredible destination in its own right, but it also acts as a brilliant base from which to visit other places in brilliant British Columbia. This itinerary spans 10 days and includes two hotels stays - in Whistler and Vancouver - and a reasonably active itinerary with something different most days. August is a wonderful time to visit. Accommodation prices in Whistler in the summer are quite a bit cheaper than Vancouver, where it’s definitely peak season.
Day 1 - Arrival and exploration
Collect hire car
Drive to Whistler (2.5-3 hours)
Evening in Whistler Village
Day 2 - Whistler
Take the Blackcomb cable car for spectacular views
Thrilling mountain biking for enthusiasts
Relax at Whistler Village - shopping, entertainment and dining
Day 3 - Whistler
Rent electric bikes and tour the stunning trails and lakes
Plenty of places to stop for lunch/coffee/drinks
Take a sea plane from Green Lake for a scenic trip over the stunning geology
Day 4, 5, 6 - Vancouver
Final morning in Whistler
Head back to Vancouver to spend a couple of days seeing the sites, walking, culture and the incredible food scene
Visit Stanley Park, West End, Granville Island Market, Kitsilano Beach, Gastown, Yaletown, Mt Pleasant, Commercial Drive and much more
Day 7-9 - Island visits by ferry
Make use of the fantastic ferry network to visit Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast
In summer, the journey feels like a mini cruise
Early starts, full days, then back to the City for dinner, or pack a back and stay overnight
Day 10 - Vancouver
Your final day in Vancouver
Visit Capilano Suspension Bridge Park
Or take advantage of Vancouver’s shopping - and try a Japadog while you’re at it, or perhaps some Poutine (a dish of french fries, chips and cheese curds topped with gravy, from Quebec but easily found in Vancouver)
Alternative Edits
Switch Whistler for a longer stay on Vancouver Island and enjoy whale watching
Bolt-on an Alaska Cruise
Take the Rocky Mountaineer train to Lake Louise and Banff, then return from Calgary

Vancouver Tips
Book ferries in advance if travelling in holiday periods, choose from Langdale terminal very close to Vancouver, or Horseshoe Bay, a slightly longer drive South
the harbour front area is a fantastic location to base yourself in downtown Vancouver
It’s a very walkable city at any pace
Be careful to avoid the more sketchy areas - plan your route but don’t let it stop you from exploring
